The Granary – A Luxury Group Cottage in the Heart of Exmoor’s Wild Beauty
Welcome to the Granary - a large luxury holiday cottage in the heart of the Exmoor National Park.
Sitting resolutely on the Somerset side of Exmoor, and just an hour from Bristol, and 2.5 from London, this expansive converted barn is a private sanctuary comfortably accommodating up to 16 guests. Wood Advent’s large holiday cottage sits in a secluded valley with stunning views across classic rolling countryside and traditional woodland, and offers guests that rare mix of real comfort in a truly secluded setting.
Spread out across 8 double bedrooms - all ensuite, reconnect in the huge vaulted sitting and dining space, cook up a storm (or get caterers to do it for you…) in the well-equipped kitchen, enjoy movie night en masse, or just put your feet up in front of the log burner with a good book.
Outside, in the Granary’s private grounds there is a 16 seater hot tub, swimming pool, games barn, children’s play area, fire pit and BBQ, not to mention the large lawn for those cosy fireside chats, long al fresco lunches and summer games.
Whether you’re celebrating a special birthday, upcoming nuptials or simply a bunch of great friends or close-knit family carving out some days together, there are spaces, luxury touches and a little time for everyone.
Celebrate, connect and kick back
Wine tasting, spa treatments, clay shooting, adventure sports and other activities can all be arranged from the property, along with top tips for everything from pizza van hire to silver service 5 course dinners.
Then there’s the small matter of 450 acres of the best that Exmoor has to offer. Engage in a mini (or maxi) adventure following footpaths that crisscross the farm to glimpse the Bristol Channel and the Gower Peninsula beyond, dabble in a little forest bathing beneath ancient oaks, or speed past it all on a mountain bike with the wind in your hair… all without even leaving the farm. And don’t forget to order your organic, regenerative produce from right here on the farm to enjoy during your stay or take home as a treat.
But Exmoor isn’t all farms, forests and footpaths. The Granary is surrounded by excellent country pubs, exceptional eateries, beautiful beaches, and more than a few picture perfect castles, stately homes and villages. Tap into something a little more unexpected at the nearby East Quay Kitchen and Gallery, or get a unique view of this incredible landscape while paddleboarding, coasteering, biking or riding.
A little bit special
Let’s be honest, there are other corners of the countryside with large luxury holiday cottages. Some are in Somerset, some have swimming pools (not many), one or two may have all ensuite bedrooms (we haven’t found any yet), some are even located in incredible, protected landscapes like Exmoor’s National Park. A couple might even be set in landscapes large enough to explore all day without reaching the edges of the farm.
They’ll all offer the chance to take some time out in nature - to breathe out, slow down and reconnect with the people you love best - as they should. But few can claim to have been doing so for millennia from the peace and quiet of an organic, biodiverse, regenerative estate.
Stay at the Granary here at Wood Advent in the heart of the Exmoor National Park with your nearest and dearest and you’ll be treading in the footsteps of the Neolithic community that called this special part of Exmoor home 5,000 years ago.
…Or the Saxons of the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th centuries who named the hamlet now lost beneath our feet ‘Oda’ or ‘Wode’, perhaps after the plant that now adorns our logo. Then there was the Norman, Richard de Avenant, awarded this estate as war spoils after 1066. In fact, Wood Advent appears in Domesday Book, the survey taken at the instruction of William the Conqueror in 1086.
By the 1760s, the Brewer family was living and working this land - as we do to this day. We think (though its easy to lose count) that makes us at least the 14th generation to have the privilege of caring for this place on behalf of everyone who lives, works and visits Wood Advent. We’re proud of this very special part of a very special National Park - from its history and heritage to its determined fight for the future of our ecosystems, climate and species. So turn up, settle in, catch up and we’ll look forward to showing you around your home from home.
