Exmoor is perhaps one of the less well known of our national parks, but one of the most unspoilt, beautiful and tranquil areas in England. The hills and valleys are more gentle than those of the Brecons or in the Lake District, but parts of the high moor are very wild and empty, apart from the wildlife.

Exmoor is a place where the air is clean and pure, and the night sky is truly dark, with the stars clearly visible on cloudless nights. This part of the West Country is very quiet and peaceful, being slightly off the beaten track to the tourist hotspots in Cornwall and parts of Devon. Although there are still plenty of things to see and do, it is easier to escape the crowds in West Somerset and Exmoor.

Wood Advent Farm B&B is ideally placed to allow guests easy access to Exmoor, the spectacular coastlines of West Somerset and North Devon, and the many picturesque villages in the area, such as Dunster, Selworthy, Bossington, Porlock, and Lynton and Lynmouth in North Devon. Exmoor National Park is an area of outstanding natural beauty, with its varying landscapes of wild heather moorland and secret wooded valleys. Walkers, cyclists and horseriders will all enjoy exploring the stunning scenery of Exmoor with its wealth of flora and fauna.

The nearby Quantock Hills are also very beautiful, with many waymarked walks to follow. The newly opened Coleridge Way is a long distance walk which takes you from the Quantocks to Porlock. The section of the South West Coast Path running from Minehead to Lynton is breathtaking, with fantastic views out over the Bristol Channel to Wales. Wimbleball Lake is nearby and offers a variety of watersports as well as fishing. There are also many smaller lakes, ponds and rivers on Exmoor to tempt the keen fisherman. Sea fishing trips can be arranged from nearby Watchet.

For those looking for a less energetic holiday, there is the West Somerset Steam Railway, which runs from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard, the Tropiquaria at Washford, Minehead itself with its long sandy beach and pretty harbour, and the medieval village of Dunster with its famous castle, quaint little gift shops, and cafes where you can indulge in a Somerset cream tea.

Many people just enjoy exploring the area by car or bus. There is always something to discover, maybe a spectacular view, a glimpse of the red deer, Exmoor ponies, or a buzzard circling overhead. Whatever type of holiday you are looking for, this unique part of the West Country is sure to provide you with some wonderful memories, especially if you stay with us at Wood Advent Farm!
